A slower kind of morning

Sample fieldnote — created to introduce the journal.

A slow morning does not have to mean an empty calendar. It can be a small space before the first demand of the day: enough time to make a drink and finish a thought.

Make a little space

Start with something modest. Open the curtain before opening an app. Sit down to drink the first few sips of coffee. Read a page of something you chose for pleasure.

The value is in doing one thing at a time, even briefly.

Keep the ritual simple

A ritual should make the morning easier, not give it another standard to meet. Use the mug you already have. Write in the notebook that is already nearby.

Try a short prompt: what would make today feel well spent? The answer can be practical or very small.

Let the day begin

Some mornings will still be hurried. A ritual is something to return to, not a test you fail. The quiet minutes matter because they are yours, however many there are.
