This is what the hardware in my back looks like. Back in 1991, they used a device called a Harrington rod. Harrington rods were created to treat Scoliosis, but were also used to support the spine in an injury. I had a compression fracture as the result of a car accident. So my spinal cord was fused 1 vertebra below and above the injury and the rods made sure the fracture healed.
Cut to present day. Pain, getting old sucks. As a result of the fusion I developed arthritis and it makes it hard to find relief every day.
I hear they don't use the Harrington rods anymore, as they caused long term problems. If only I could go back in time.
